HOW TO PROTECT YOUR OWN GARDEN

Bible reading

Genesis 2:15-17; Joshua 24:15; Proverbs 4:23; Songs 2:15

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Genesis 2:15 (KJV)

In this life we live, it is practically impossible to run away from taking up Responsibilities without facing the consequences. In the famous words of Ben Parker, the uncle of the great fictional Marvel comic book superhero character Spiderman aka Peter Parker: "With great power comes great responsibility." The unfortunate reality is that there are so many people who are so power-hungry yet they deliberately abdicate the various Responsibilities and Obligations involved.

Responsibility could simply be loosely defined as "a response to one's ability." Every form of delegated Authority is accompanied by Accountability as well as Responsibility. This is one of the reasons the Holy Scriptures admonish us to "WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION with Fear and trembling..." (Phil. 2:12b). The Dominion Mandate that was given to Adam by the Lord God Almighty involved dressing (cultivating) and keeping (guiding) the Garden. However, he committed the twin sins of high treason and irresponsibility, failing to protect the Garden from the serpent gaining access, leading to the latter succeeded in seducing and eventually deceiving Eve (Gen. 3:1-7). According to the Divine Order, it is the Primary Responsibility of the man in every Family to protect his wife and children as the leader of the home. Nevertheless, the error of Adam was that he failed to be at the right place at the right time to protect his wife from satanic manipulation. Within the Context of male and female responsibilities in a Family i.e., what we refer to as the emotional needs of men and women, one thing ought to be made abundantly clear: The man must be supported by the woman as his helpmate while the latter must be protected by the former both from third party influences and any attack from the enemies.

On these grounds, the Lord God Almighty expects us to guard and guide whatsoever He has committed into our hands such as our Talents, Gifts and Resources as well as our Family members, separating our hearts from all manner of contamination then consecrating ourselves to Him (Jam. 1:27). This is so critical because it’s much easier to keep the enemy out of your heart or Family than it is to eject him once he has already entered into your garden and caused a lot of damage. Simply put, prevention is always better than cure (Matt. 6:13a). Never forget that with every Authority given, Power is delegated and Responsibility demanded. Shalom.

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we honour You for Your Mercy and Grace. We exalt You for making us Stewards of all things You have committed into our hands. O Lord, please help us to be found Faithful in guarding our gardens from any demonic activities in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.
