As we have seen from our Key Scriptural Text, Apostle Paul focuses on one of the most Effective means of Transformation: The renewing of the mind: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND.” What a Profound Truth! If you truly desire deliverance from the bondage of mere duty-driven Christianity and do what you love to do simply because it is what you are meant to do, then you must commit yourself completely to pursuing the renewing of your mind which the Holy Scriptures say is a Primary Key to Transformation. There are so many educated people who dedicate their minds to the invention of elaborate scams, complex terrorist plots and sophisticated schemes for embezzlement (Job 5:12). The Holy Bible has a far more profound analysis of the problem. In Ephesians 4:23, Paul uses an outstanding phrase to parallel Romans 12:2. In the former verse, he says the following: “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” Our mind possesses what we refer to as a “mindset.” It doesn’t just possess a view but rather a viewpoint (2 Cor. 10:4). It doesn’t just have the power to perceive or detect but also possesses a posture, a demeanour, a bearing, an attitude or a bent.
Transformation is basically the Work of the Holy Spirit. He is the One Who renews our minds. This is primarily and decisively His Work, hence we must of necessity become radically dependent on Him. Our efforts must be submissive to His Initiatives and Enabling (Prov. 3:5-6). The Holy Spirit is actively involved in the Process of Transformation and the Renewing of the mind. 2 Corinthians 3:18 states thus: "And we all, with unveiled face, BEHOLDING THE GLORY OF THE LORD, ARE BEING TRANSFORMED INTO THE SAME IMAGE FROM ONE DEGREE OF GLORY TO ANOTHER. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." The Holy Spirit Himself is the Primary Catalyst of the renewing of the mind, resulting in Transformation by enabling us to “behold the Glory of the Lord.” This is how the mind is renewed: By steadfastly gazing at the Glory of Christ in order to catch a glimpse of Who He really is (Ex. 33:18).
Beholding the Glory of Christ for Who He really is, according to Apostle Paul, renews the mind, transforms the life and producing Unending Worship. The Spirit then works from the inside out by melting the hard heart that blinds and corrupts the mind. He works from the outside in through Christ-Exalting Truth and from the inside out through Truth-Embracing Humility. To elucidate further, the former without the latter leads to the Truth being despised and rejected while the latter without the former would leave no Christ to embrace and no genuine Worship to occur.
