The Subject of Lukewarmness in our Christian Faith today is absolutely important due to its tendency to subtly entice certain gullible believers to have a false sense of satisfaction. It is often said in the words of the late Dr Myles Munroe that "when Purpose is unknown, abuse becomes inevitable." What then is Lukewarmness, one may ask. It is essentially "a state of being tepid or moderately warm rather than being cold or hot." In other words, it's a frustrating state since it defies Purpose, prompting the Lord Jesus to say: "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My Mouth" (Rev. 3:16 KJV).
From the aforementioned Scripture, we can see that God is totally displeased with lukewarmness because anytime someone is lukewarm, he or she has failed to take a stand of Conviction as far as the Righteous Standards of God are concerned, a very disturbing plague in our Christian Circles today. Some Christian believers find it uncomfortable to declare their Faith in the open because they are still having one foot in Zion and the other in Egypt simultaneously.
After Mankind's fall from Grace and Glory, the Lord God Almighty went to his original place yet couldn't find Adam (Gen. 3:8). He called out to the man to know where he was, but the latter answered Him from a place of defeat once he discovered he was naked (Gen. 3:9-10 KJV). Any so-called Christian believer living like an unbeliever is actually living in uncertainty, an extremely dangerous place to be. It shows us that one hasn't made up one's mind to live for Christ and His Purpose. Indeed, to live in Christ means to live in Life but outside of Him, one finds only death. Every tree produces fruit according to its own nature and it's only by examining the fruit that we can actually know the tree that produced it (Matt. 7:20).
There are certain Rudimentary Factors for those affected to understand when dealing with and eventually overcoming Lukewarmness:
THE ABIDING LIFE
The Genuine Christian believer's life is empowered by God's Spirit. To abide means "to stay or to live in." You can never be an Effective Christian without immersing your life within God's Spirit. The Holy Scriptures call the Holy Spirit our Seal (Eph. 1:13b). The word "Seal" means "Preserver." You must start spending time in the Spirit through Prayer, Worship, study of God's Word and Meditation as well as listening to Inspiring Christian Messages. Once you do these things often, you ascend to a Higher Dimension of Christian Living (Jn. 15:4). Anytime you notice Lukewarmness in your life, you need to go back to these things because it is often the result of carnality.
GODLY ASSOCIATIONS
You definitely need to change certain people within your space and circle, especially those ones who distract you from the Ultimate Goal which is Christlikeness (Prov. 13:20). Rather than that, follow those Christian believers who still harbour a Burning Fire within (Prov. 27:17) which will inevitably spread with reckless abandon to their fellows.
GODLY MENTORSHIP
It is commonly said in a somewhat humorous manner that "your mentor is your tormentor." The basic implications here is that mentors intentionally make things tough for their protégés since there are things you can never do for yourself or tell yourself sincerely. Only a true mentor has the capacity and courage to do this. Therefore, you need someone who would help keep you aflame for Christ (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Every individual's Pathway to Greatness surely needs a little push from a mentor.
UNFETTERED ACCOUNTABILITY
You need to adopt an accountability partner who holds you up in Prayer and compels you to stay true to your commitments. This has to be someone you have high regards for and can never lie to (1 Kgs. 12:6-15). Grant someone the permission to watch over your Faith in order to watch yourself become all that Jesus made you to be.
