YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD

Bible reading

1 KINGS 6:7; 1 CORINTHIANS 3:16-17; JOHN 2:13-21; 1 CORINTHIANS 6:15-20

Then Jesus went into the Temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the Temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. "And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My House shall be called a House of Prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves'.”
Matthew 21:12-13 (NKJV)

One of the sad realities of life is that so many people erroneously think Christianity is simply a mere religion like many others worldwide which is a lie coming straight from the pit of hell. Religion is actually man's search for God in an attempt to fill up the void within him while Christianity is God's Search for man (Lk. 19:10). In other words, adopting religion as a means to achieving Salvation is essentially an exercise in futility. The Holy Scriptures extensively record diverse accounts of the Transforming Power of our Faith, especially in the life of Apostle Paul when he was still referred to as Saul of Tarsus, the persecutor and tormentor-in-chief of the Early Church: "For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, HOW I PERSECUTED THE CHURCH OF GOD BEYOND MEASURE AND TRIED TO DESTROY IT" (Gal. 1:13). Think about this for a moment: An individual who was initially feared as public enemy number one of the Body of Christ was eventually transformed to become the most prominent Champion and Apologist of the Early Church. This could only be made possible through a combination of Grace and Consecration with the latter being powered by a Revelation of our lives as the Temple of the Living God Himself.

The Ultimate Heart Cry of the Lord God Almighty for every True Christian believer is for our Total Sanctification i.e., spirit, soul and body (1 Thess. 5:23). This is because He alone possesses the right to bear the Name "Adonai" i.e., our Owner and Lord, hence whatever we do with our lives (especially our bodies) must honour Him at all times. In order to further elucidate this point, the Holy Bible says the following: "And what agreement has the Temple of God with idols? For you are the Temple of the Living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and WALK AMONG THEM. I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (2 Cor. 6:16 NKJV). The English phrase "walk among them" is directly translated from the Greek word "Emparipateo" which literally means "to perambulate or walk about with unrestricted freedom." The implication here is that the Holy Spirit has the Exclusive Right to Unfettered Access into every area of our lives (spirit, soul and body) simply because we are exclusively HIS TEMPLE where He alone MUST BE WORSHIPPED.

On this premise, the onus lies upon us as Christian believers to develop a deep hatred for every vice under the categories of the lust of the flesh (such as sexual immorality), the lust of the eyes (such as covetousness or greed) and the pride of life (such as rebellion or arrogance) as an Authentic Expression of our Total Surrender to the Lord God Almighty (1 Jn. 2:16b). There is no impediment, obstacle, or contrary transaction that must be allowed in our lives since we must always be ready to give an answer to "Him to Whom we must give account" (Heb. 4:13b).

Prayer

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, to You alone do we ascribe all the Glory, Honour and Praise. O Lord, we humbly surrender afresh to You our entire spirit, soul and body as Your Holy Temple in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.
